Gaza City - Columns of smoke, craters and destroyed buildings: similar images have been circulating around the world almost every day since the start of the war in Israel. The extent of the damage in the Gaza Strip is now becoming tangible thanks to new maps. According to these, significantly more than one in ten houses is already damaged or even destroyed. This is often the result of Israeli operations following the terrorist attack on Hamas and its positions at the beginning of October. However, these also caused civilian casualties.
How extensive is the actual damage? This is shown by our satellite data, which we evaluated for the political magazine Panoram and Ippen Investigativ in an elaborate SAR analysis and visualised in this interactive map. According to this analysis, 36,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed since the start of the war.
